Simple SEO – Get Ranked in Four Easy Steps

SEO or Search Engine Optimisation is the process of manipulating the search algorithm to enhance your websites search rankings for your specific keywords.

Search engine optimization is the process of affecting the online visibility of a website or a web page in a web search engine’s unpaid results—often referred to as “natural”, “organic”, or “earned” results.

If you own a website, be it for your business or a personal website, the thought has crossed your mind, How do I rank my website in Google?

Don’t worry, you are not alone. There are thousands, if not tens of thousands of people thinking the exact safe thing.

I am going to share with you 4 steps that I personally use that will allow you to get your website ranking in Google. I am even going to share some great resources that you can use today to start your SEO journey.

Note: SEO is not a case of more is better. Just the opposite, it is about the right techniques at the right time for your website. Link abuse will 100% get your website penalised!

Step 1: On-Page SEO

The first step to getting your website ranked on the search engines is On-Page SEO.

What is On-Page SEO?

On-page SEO is the practice of optimizing individual web pages in order to rank higher and earn more relevant traffic in search engines. On-page refers to both the content and HTML source code of a page that can be optimized, as opposed to off-page SEO which refers to links and other external signals.

Basically, it is the process of making sure that your website is search engine friendly. By optimising your website, you are giving your website the best chance of getting indexed by Google and other search engines.

How Do You Do On-Page SEO?

It is unknown how many “ranking factors” Google looks at when ranking a website but it is believed to be at least 200. Personally, I do not optimise for all 200 ranking factors, it would be almost impossible to do as it varied from website to website.

Below are 11  top ranking factors that will enhance your website’s rankings:

  • Have SEO-Friendly URLs
  • Start Your Title With Keyword
  • Add Modifiers To Your Page/Post Title
  • Make Your Blog Page/Post Titles in an H1 Tag
  • Make Your Subheadings in H2 Tags
  • Add Keyword in First 100 Words
  • Responsive Website Design
  • Use Outbound Links
  • Use Internal Links
  • Improve Site Speed
  • Image Optimization

Some SEO masters swear that with great on-site SEO, you can rank for very competitive keywords. I am a firm believer that on-site SEO works hand in hand with inbound links.

Step 2: Social Signals

When trying to rank a website in Google, you are in essence speeding up the process. To do the process well, you have to think of the organic journey of the website.

  • Step one – build the website
  • Step two – share it on social media websites

Once you have built and published your website, the first thing you would do is share it on your social media websites and get your friends, family to view, like and share your website.

This shows the search engines that your website and the content is of value.

By buying social signals, you are speeding us the process thus speeding up the process of getting your website visible on the first page.

There are many websites that offer social shares but be warned, not every share is good. You do NOT want fake bot shares and likes. This is an immediate give away that you are trying plat the system.

Below are 3 great and trusted resources to get social signals:

Personally, I would recommend getting a regular dose of social signals to your website. Get social signals directed at your home page and also your inner pages as if real people would like and share content as you publish it.

Step 3.1: Pillow Links

The term Pillow Links or Buffer Links started after Google dropped their Panda update.

A Short History Lesson

Only a couple of years ago, SEO was as simple as building as many links and pointing them to your main website using the exact keyword anchor text as you want to rank.

Eg: If you want to rank in the top position for “plumber in {City}” – you would build 1000’s of links using the exact text.

This is a massive NO NO and if you do anything like that in today’s SEO world, your website will never be seen again.

Today, you have to be very clinical in choosing your anchor text when building links and with the help of pillow links, this can be done very easily.

What are Pillow Links?

Pillow links are the anchor text that you use to link from one website to another. It is the variation of the main keyword that you are trying to rank in the search engines.

Here are some examples of varied anchor text:

  • Miscellaneous anchor text – read more, click here, visit website, learn more
  • Brand – This is your brand name – RileyX, RileyX.com etc
  • URL variations – http://mysite.com, http://www.mysite.com, www.mysite.com, mysite.com

By building inbound links to your main website using a variety of keywords, you are thinning down your keyword ratio, when you do link to your website using your main keyword from an authority website, you will see a massive jump in positions in Google.

Where do you get pillow links to your website?

Again, the internet is populated with many online marketplaces where people offer their services. Just be warned that not everyone is good at what they do.

Here are some great SEO providers that know what they are doing and provide a great service:

Step 3.1: Press Release

Another great way to get your website moving in the search engines is to get a press release written about your business which will link back to your website.

If we jump back to the organic journey of the website:

  • Step one – build the website
  • Step two – share it on social media websites
  • Step three – Get PR done

By having a Press Release written for your business, you will get 100’s of websites linking back to your main website.

* It is recommended to use a branded anchor text or a raw URL link – mydomain.com

A Press Release, if written well, will enhance your website in the search engines because you will have high authority domains pointing towards your website.

Step 4: Authority Links

Authority Links are the links that are going to get your website ranking for your desired keyword in the search engines. They are the right hook punch that will knock your competition out of the park.

What makes an Authority Link?

Authority links are links from websites that have established a substantial degree of trust and authority with search engines as a result of their age, quality, and size. Authority is a somewhat subjective concept.

Tasty Placement

In other words, authority links come from websites that are relevant, have a quality backlink history and has a stronger domain than yours.

When an authority link is directed to your website, the authority link juice (an SEO term) is passed to your domain and website and it is these links that Google looks for as a ranking factor.

Where do you get Authority Links?

There are a variety of websites and individuals who offer an authority link service. You would pay per article placed on a website that will link back to your website with your desired anchor text (this is where you use your main keywords).

This is the one section which I will not divulge Authority link suppliers. 

Many of the websites that I have mentioned above do offer a PBN service which is a Personal Blog Network. Niche-specific websites that will link back to yours for a price.

Deciding what types of Authority Links you want pointing to your website is 100% your choice and not mine. This is the only choice you have to make and it is the final one in the journey to ranking your website.

Who knows, you may not even need any authority links to rank if you use steps 1 to 3.

This process does work and it will depend on your niche, keywords, National SEO vs Local SEO but the ranking techniques mantioned above do work.

I have been trying to rank my website for a couple of months now and because I cant afford to hire an seo agency I feel my business is losing out every month. I am going to start using your guide and hopefully get my website on the first page of Google. Thanks
